While this must be present throughout the entire disciplinary process, the disciplinary hearing can ultimately determine the success or failure of a matter. In this regard, participants in this session will acquire the knowledge and skills to conduct a succinct, effective and legally defensible disciplinary hearing.

  • Room set-up and establishing ground rules
  • Managing the employee representative
  • Recording the hearing (i.e. notetaking, audio and visual recording and its dissemination)
  • Activity: How to analyse the facts
  • Mitigating factors to consider before making a final decision
  • Activity: Conduct a disciplinary hearing from start to finish
  • Do’s and don’ts when preparing the chairman’s report
