The ECA is pleased to have been invited to join an important workshop focused on the theme “Developing & Upgrading Skills in South Asia for Manufacturing & Industrial Sectors”, held from 27-28 June 2024 in New Delhi, India.

The workshop, which was hosted by the Employers Federation of India, Confederation of Indian Industry, Global Apprenticeship Network, and the International Organisation of Employers (IOE), brought together government representatives, employer associations, and private companies from across South Asia, East Africa and the Caribbean, to address the pressing challenges and vast opportunities in vocational skills development.

The sessions highlighted successful apprenticeship and work-based learning (WBL) programs, presenting various company case studies and success stories. Speakers shared strategies for designing and implementing effective programs tailored to local contexts, emphasizing the importance of collaboration with educational institutions and regulatory bodies. It focused on the skills required for sustainable growth in these sectors. Emphasis was placed on public-private partnerships, the role of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and TVET institutions, and identifying critical future skills, particularly in adapting to AI and the energy transition.

The event also reinforced the importance of International Labour Organization R208 on #QualityApprenticeships.
