HR/IR letters are an important form of communication between an employer and employee. While they cover a broad spectrum of issues relating to the employment relationship, these letters must be coherent and legally sound, so as to satisfy the objectives of the letter, while avoiding, reducing or resolving liability.



This practical workshop is designed to give the participants first-hand experience and exposure in writing key letters and correspondences used in HR communication as well as the context and circumstances under which each letter can be issued.

The programme will further enhance the participants' knowledge as it relates to principles and practices of good industrial relations.


  • Part One: Investigative and Disciplinary Letters
    • How to write investigative letters:
      • Invitation to disciplinary hearings
      • Charging with misconduct
    • How to write disciplinary letters:
      • Warning letters
      • Suspension letters
      • Termination letters
  • Part Two: Administrative and Performance Letters
    • Writing performance appraisal letters for unsatisfactory performance
    • Extension of probation
    • Letters of promotion, transfers, and acting positions
    • How to write job abandonment letters
    • Appointment letters
