ECA Commends Citizens' Response to Rest and Reflect

The Employers Consultative Association of Trinidad and Tobago (ECA) wishes to extend its commendation and high praises to the majority of our public servants and citizenry for their patriotism and mature response to the September 7th call for a day of rest and reflection.

Based on reports, many public offices reported near normal staff turnout by public servants who showed up to fulfil their duties and serve the needs of the people of Trinidad and Tobago. Furthermore, according to information received from the ECA’s own membership across sectors such as manufacturing, distribution, retail, energy services, finance and other business services, 98% indicated that their staff complement was not affected by the call to rest and reflect with no need for activation of contingency plans.

However, the ECA was disheartened by reports from the Ministry of Education of a near 50% turnout. We can only hope that those entrusted with the education of our next generation will appreciate the importance of this responsibility and the relative impact that such actions can have on the lives our nation’s children.

We recognise that some will be impacted as tough decisions are made in the interest of Trinidad and Tobago’s future. However, the ECA urges all stakeholders not to underestimate the value and power of dialogue and encourages all citizens to both individually and collectively take responsibility for creating a sustainable future for generations to come.
